Bearberry was one of the ingredients in Native American tobacco. Known for it’s narcotic properties and ability to relieve headaches this local plant was passed around by many Native American tribes. Europeans came along and adopted the word and used to describe all flora that wasn’t a tree or didn’t grow in Europe. Here on the Outer Cape we all appreciate the humble Kinnikinnick for it’s evergreen ground cover. You will find that and lots more in the bucolic setting in the hills of Truro, at 9 Kinnikinnick Road!
